NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s soccer kicks off its spring season this Saturday, March 25, as they host Chowan at the ODU Soccer Complex. Game time is set for 2 p.m. between the Monarchs and Hawks and is free and open to the public.

Old Dominion and Chowan have never met on the soccer pitch in 47-years of Monarch soccer. The scrimmage will test both teams and give them the opportunity to prepare for the rapidly approaching fall season.

The Monarchs finished the 2016 season 6-9-2 falling to FIU in the semifinals of the C-USA conference tournament.

ODU lost five senior starters in keeper Alex Tiesenhausen, key defenders Christian Wirth and Nick Hutchinson and midfielders Cole Stringer and Jesse Miralrio.

Returning for the spring season is VaSID Rookie of the Year and C-USA All-Freshman team member, Sebastien Hauret. The Paris, France native returns as the teams assist leader recording seven in the 2016 season. Also coming back is leading scorer Niko Klosterhalfen who had a team-high four goals in the fall.

Following Saturday's scrimmage the Monarchs have a week to prepare for the Longwood Lancers. ODU and Longwood take to the pitch on Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m., for the second of three spring games for the Monarchs.
