NORFOLK, Va. – ODU lacrosse fell in the Atlantic Sun conference opener against Jacksonville 12-7 on Friday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. The Dolphins improved to 4-4, 1-0 ASUN, while the Lady Monarchs fell to 4-4, 0-1 ASUN.

Old Dominion returns the to L.R. Hill Sports Complex on Sunday, March 26, for ‘Sunday Dog Days’ against Stetson at 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring their dogs to watch the Lady Monarchs take on the Hatters in ASUN conference action.

Connor Carson and Megan Cameron led the ODU attack with two goals apiece while Sophia Richie, Morgan Marrale and Cydney Tutchton each added a score of their own.

Old Dominion opened the scoring with a goal by Carson in the fifth minute of action on an unassisted shot. The Dolphins went on to score three consecutive goals taking a 3-1 lead over the Lady Monarchs over the next 16 minutes.

Cameron shot one into the back of the net with 33 seconds left in the half to pull the home team within one as the teams headed into halftime with Jacksonville leading 3-2.

The second half started with a Jacksonville goal by Courtney Valdez to give JU a 4-2 lead. The Lady Monarchs came back to tie the game four all, on back-to-back goals by Tutchton and Carson in the span of 29 seconds.

Jacksonville answered with consecutive goals of their own to reclaim the lead 6-4 before Richie connected with the net in the 45th minute of action to bring ODU back within one (6-5).

The Dolphins closed out the final 15 minutes of play with a 6-2 run led by Valdez and MacEllen McDonough, who each scored twice, to win the match 12-7 and picked up their first conference win.

Maggi Buckley collected nine saves and a team-high five ground balls falling to 4-4, 0-1 in net for the Lady Monarchs.  Carson had a game-high six draw controls, while Natalie Ledwitz forced a game-high five caused turnovers.

Valdez and McDonough led the Dolphins with three goals apiece. Hannah Wilcox added an additional two goals in the 12-7 victory.

JU’s keeper Sydney Matthews tallied five saves and improved to 4-2, 1-0 in goal for the Dolphins.

LOOKING AHEAD…

The Lady Monarchs return to the L.R. Hill on Sunday, March 26th, as they host Stetson for the second ASUN conference match of the weekend. Game time is set for 1 pm and fans can bring their four-legged friends to the game as the Lady Monarchs have their ‘Sunday Dog Days’ promotion.
