NORFOLK, Va. -- Jake Josephs pitched five shutout innings and Old Dominion extended its season-long winning streak to seven games with a 7-1 victory over Princeton on Wednesday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Complex.

After scoring 13 runs in the bottom of the eighth inning last night, Old Dominion (17-4) posted a five spot in the bottom of the second and that was all of the run production that Josephs and the ODU pitching staff would need to defeat Princeton (2-11) and win the midweek series, 2-0.

Josephs, who tied his career high with five innings pitched, scattered three hits and one walk, while striking out three. In relief, Culver Lamb tossed two shutout innings in replacement of Josephs and Michael Blanchard finished the game with a scoreless ninth. Corey Klak allowed the Tigers' lone run in the eighth.

The five-run second for ODU was ignited by a string of free passes issued by Princeton starter Keelan Smithers. Nick Walker and Vinnie Pasquantino tacked on RBI singles in the frame, as the Monarchs have now scored first in 13 of 21 games and are 12-1 when scoring the first run.

At the plate, Bryce Windham and Pasquantino both notched multi-hit games. Windham went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, his first career extra-base hit, while Pasquantino went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI for his ninth mult-hit game of the season.

Jared Young also continued his recent success at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and a double. Young is now hitting .471 with three extra-base hits and four RBIs in the last five games.

Sophomore outfielder Cory Alexander II also recorded his first career hit with a line-drive single to left in the eighth inning.

The Monarchs return to action this weekend for a road series at Conference USA foe UTSA. The opening game is slated for Friday at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT on STAR 1310 and CUSA.tv.
