NORFOLK, Va. – ODU lacrosse defeated William & Mary 13-10 in a come from behind win spurred by Katie Miller’s five goals, on Wednesday evening at the L.R. Hill Complex. The Lady Monarchs improve to 4-3 while the Tribe falls to 2-6.
Miller led all athletes with five goals while also adding an assist for six total points in the game. Colby Muller and Connor Carson each added two goals of their own, while Lauren Irvine, Brooke Stein, Cydney Tutchton and Natalie Ledwitz all contributed to the 13-10 victory. Stein and Tutchton each had two assists in the game.
Maggi Buckley collected her fourth win in goal for the Lady Monarchs tallying eight saves and a team-high six ground balls.
Abby Corkum led the scoring for the Tribe with three goals while Lindsey Jenks added two. Five other athletes from William and Mary scored in the 13-10 loss.
Elsa Rall earned the loss after entering the game at halftime and giving up nine goals and the Tribe lead. Rall tallied six saves while Alex Lista had four in the first half.
William and Mary got on the scoreboard first on a goal in the 2nd minute from Jenks. ODU responded with two quick goals by Miller and Tutchton, to take a 2-1 lead with 24:55 remaining in the first half.
The Tribe scored four unanswered goals before the Lady Monarchs put two into the net, courtesy of Muller and Stein, climbing back within one, 5-4. William & Mary closed out the first half with back-to-back goals and a 7-4 lead on the scoreboard.
The second half started with William & Mary’s eighth goal of the game in the 32nd minute of action by McKinley Wade. The Lady Monarchs responded with a 4-2 run trailing the Tribe 10-8 with 15:44 left on the clock.
Five unanswered Old Dominion goals in the final 11 minutes of play put the Lady Monarchs up by three, 13-10, on the scoreboard and ultimately resulted in the team’s fourth win.
The Lady Monarchs have a week and a half to rest and recover before they open up ASUN conference action on Friday, March 24. The Dolphins of Jacksonville, the reigning regular season ASUN champions, come to Norfolk to kick off conference competition on Friday at 3 p.m.
Fans should get there early as the first 100 fans who come to the game will receive an ODU tank top.
