CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Fourteen members of the Old Dominion field hockey team were named to the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, as was announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Wednesday.
The Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad includes all student-athletes with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or greater through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year. Also on Wednesday, 114 members of the Division I National Academic Squad were named Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I Scholars of Distinction for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or greater through the first semester.
Overall, 926 student-athletes representing 79 institutions were included on this year's National Academic Squad for Division I field hockey.
Old Dominion's Megan Byas was one of 139 seniors in the nation named to the National Academic Squad in each of her four seasons.
The 2017 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA National Academic Squad included 14 Lady Monarchs: Alexandria Brewer; Megan Byas; Julia Demeester; Lacey Frazier; Danielle Grega; Tori Harwood; Erin Huffman; Jess Miller; Amie Olton; Kealsie Robles; Kristie Robles; Carrie Sensenig; Ashleigh Thomas; Kristen Vick.
