Lacrosse Travels to #20 Va. Tech in Saturday Showdown

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion lacrosse travels to Blacksburg, Va. to face No. 20 Virginia Tech on Saturday, February 25, for the teams’ third-consecutive road game. The Lady Monarchs and Hokies will play at the Va. Tech Indoor Practice Facility with first draw at 1 p.m.

Old Dominion (2-0, 0-0 ASUN)
The Lady Monarchs started the season off with back-to-back road wins over VCU and Campbell. ODU last competed on Saturday, Feb. 18.

  • Cydney Tutchton leads the team with five goals and seven points. She recorded a hat trick at VCU including a goal from outside the 8-meter arch.
  • Connor Carson tallied her own hat trick at Campbell. She has four goals and an assist for five points.
  • Megan Topper is tied for second in points with Carson at five. Topper’s points come from two goals and a team-high three assists.
  • Morgan Marrale also has three assists on the season to tie Topper for the top spot. Marrale has four points on three assists and a goal.
  • Alyssa Sebesto leads the team in ground balls with eight and has also collected three draw controls and forced three turnovers.
  • Maggi Buckley has played all 120 minutes in net for the Lady Monarchs this season. She has collected 18 saves for a .514 save percentage and allowed 17 goals.
  • Topper needs just one assist to tie Dana Kuchta (93-96) in career assists at 50 and six to tie Caroline Jacobs (04-07) with 55 assists for the third spot in the ODU Lacrosse record book.
  • Carson (68) is 6 caused turnovers away from breaking into the Top-5 in career caused turnovers in the record book. She also needs 16 draw controls to take 2nd in the career draw control records; she currently sits at 145.

#20 Virginia Tech (4-1, 1-0 ACC)
The Hokies enter the game on short rest after defeating Liberty 15-2 on Wednesday, February 22 in Lynchburg, Va.

  • Va. Tech defeated conference foe Boston College 18-12 on Feb. 18. The Hokies moved into the Top-20 of the 2017 IWLCA Division I Coaches Poll while BC is receiving votes.
  • The Hokies have out scored opponents by 38 goals this season. VT has 73 goals while their opponents have 35.
  • VT is scoring 14.6 goals per game compared to their opponents seven.
  • Tristan McGinley leads the Hokies with 17 goals while Kristine Loscalzo has 14 and Zan Biedenharn has 12.

Series History
The Hokies lead the series 7-3 dating back to 1996 when the teams first faced each other. In the last encounter on Feb. 27, 2016, Old Dominion defeated Virginia Tech 10-7 on Norfolk, Va. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. The win was the first time since 1997 that the Lady Monarchs beat the Hokies in lacrosse.
