NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion completed a season-opening three-game sweep of LIU Brooklyn with an 11-7 victory over the Blackbirds on Sunday afternoon at the Bud Metheny Complex.

Old Dominion (3-0), who scored double-digit runs for the third consecutive game, never trailed during the entire series. The offensive outburst also marked the first time the Monarchs have opened a season with three consecutive games of 10 or more runs since 1993.

For the third straight game ODU scored a run in the first inning, as Nick Walker opened the scoring with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first. The Monarchs then put up four spots in third and fourth innings and two additional runs in the fifth to build an 11-3 lead at the end of five.

LIU Brooklyn (0-3) eventually closed the gap to four with a pair of runs in both the eighth and ninth innings.

Walker finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, while Zach Rutherford and Shaun Wood each added two hits and two RBIs. True freshman Vinnie Pasquantino belted his first career home run with a two-run shot in the third inning.

Fellow true freshman John Wilson earned the victory on the mound, allowing three runs on three hits in six innings of work. The New Jersey native fanned four, while walking two.

The Monarchs host the ODU Baseball Tournament next weekend, welcoming Kentucky, Saint Joseph's and Delaware to The Bud. ODU hosts Kentucky on Feb. 24 at 4 p.m. in its tournament opener.
