BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Two Old Dominion goals within the last minute propel the Lady Monarchs to an 11-10 victory over the Fighting Camels. Connor Carson picked up her first hat trick of the season while Natalie Ledwitz and Cydney Tutchton each add two goals for the Silver and Blue.
Maggi Buckley collected her second win in goal tallying nine saves. Carson had a team high three goals, while Megan Topper led with two assists. Ledwitz and Tutchton each had two goals in the 11-10 victory.
Merredith Bechler gave up 11 goals including two in the final 44 seconds. She collected nine saves falling to 0-2 in net. Melissa Placek and Kayla Reilly both recorded hat tricks of three goals apiece for the Fighting Camels.
The Lady Monarchs put the first point on the board less than two minutes into the game on a Carson unassisted goal (28:13). Campbell responded with a goal of their own before ODU opened up the lead 5-1 after four unanswered Lady Monarch goals. Colby Muller, Katie Miller, Sophia Richie and Megan Topper all scored in the 4-0 ODU run.
Campbell went a 3-0 run pulling within a goal, 5-4, heading into the half. ODU controlled the shots 19-10, ground balls 11-6 and went a perfect 11-11 on clears in the first half.
The Fighting Camels scored first in the second half to tie the game on a Reilly goal. Carson gave ODU a 6-5 lead before Campbell scored back-to-back goals going up 7-6. The Lady Monarchs scored three straight goals to go up 9-7 before the Camels tied and took the lead 10-9 with 2:10 remaining.
Ledwitz tied the game on an unassisted goal with 44 seconds remaining and Tutchton scored the game winner with 19 seconds remaining to seal the ODU victory.
Old Dominion led 38-28 in shots, 12-11 in draw controls and finished the day a perfect 18-18 on clear attempts.
Up next for the Lady Monarchs is a trip to Blacksburg, Va. for face off against the Hokies of Virginia Tech. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at the Virginia Tech indoor practice field.
