NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion lacrosse team opens their season on Wednesday, February 15, on the road at 4 p.m. against VCU at the Cary Street Field in Richmond, Va.

The Lady Monarchs are coming off a program best 16 wins, winning the 2016 ASUN Conference Tournament championship and making their first NCAA appearance.
Old Dominion has 17 members of the 2016 Championship team returning for the 2017 season with the addition of 10 freshmen to the roster.
Senior goalkeeper Maggi Buckley returns to take her place between the pipes after recording 137 saves last season for a 0.443 save percentage and allowing only 172 goals. She played 1115:04 minutes in net and collected a 16-4 record.
Morgan Marrale is the leading returning scorer with 32 goals and 22 assists last season while Connor Carson was close behind with 25 goals. Megan Topper returns as the leader in assists with 25 to go along with her 18 goals in the 2016 campaign.
Virginia Commonwealth (0-0, 0-0 A-10)
VCU is in its second year of the women’s lacrosse program. In the 2016 season the Rams went 3-14 overall and 1-8 against Atlantic 10 opponents.
The Rams are a young team with the roster composed of 30 underclassmen. Head coach Jen O’Brien added 10 freshmen to her roster in preparation for the 2017 season.
Ria Peralta, a sophomore goalkeeper, returns for the Rams after completing the 2016 season with 875:44 minutes in net. She started all 17 matches while allowing opponents to score 222 goals and collecting 135 saves. Jodi Enfield played in seven matches for 144:07 minutes and allowed 29 goals and collecting 11 saves.
VCU’s top-three scorers return for the 2017 slate as well. Sky Hyatt, Molly Barcikowski and Sofia Emond combined for 92 of the Rams 155 goals last season. Hyatt led with 39 while Barcikowski had 27 and Emond 26.
Last time out…
The match will be the second time the two teams have faced each other on the field. In the last encounter, the Lady Monarchs defeated the Rams 19-2.

Old Dominion takes to the field for its second of five road games on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C. First draw between the Lady Monarchs and Fighting Camels will be at 12 p.m. and fans can follow the match via live stats.
