NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion’s women’s soccer head coach Angie Hind named Lucas Zicher an assistant coach on Monday afternoon. Zicher joins ODU soccer from Coastal Carolina University where he served as assistant coach for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

“I’m delighted to welcome Lucas to our staff,” said Hind. “He has a great background in goalkeeping both from a player and coaching perspective. I know that he will make an impact with our goalkeepers here at Old Dominion. He also has strong recruiting experience, which is obviously key for us as we continue to develop the future of this program. His connections internationally, having played and coached there, will also add greatly in this area. Above all of this; however, I feel he is someone who is very committed, hard-working and is passionate about making a positive impact and I feel his personality and aspirations fit in well with those of our coaching staff and team. I am very excited to officially welcome Lucas as part of the ODU women’s soccer program and look forward to working with him.”

Zicher played a key role in the development of the goalkeepers at Coastal as well as being responsible for recruiting both domestically and internationally. He was part of a staff that helped lead the squad to successful back-to-back seasons finishing regular season runners-up in the Big South Conference (2015) and runners-up/conference tournament finalists in 2016.

Originally a native from Arlington Heights, Illinois, Lucas attended and played at DePaul University and finished his degree in sports wellness and management at Trinity International University.

Zicher has played and trained with professional clubs on various levels domestically and internationally through his career. His most recent season (2014), he spent playing professionally in Australia for the Brisbane Wolves. Holding a player trainer role, he started in 14 of 27 matches. In those fixtures the Wolves won their Premiership, made a Grande Final appearance, as-well as competed three rounds deep in the domestic cup play. The squads overall record was 24-3 and helped to set an Australian soccer record of 20 consecutive league wins.

His coaching experience domestically has consisted of coaching at Lake Forest College, with the Chicago Fire Juniors and Academies, Illinois's Olympic Development Program and most recently with the WPSL side Palm City FC.

In regards to his international coaching experience, he served as an academy coach with Werder Bremen (Germany). Zicher also held the position of Director of Goalkeeping at Rotenburger SV (Germany) and with the Brisbane Wolves (Australia).

Lucas holds NSCAA Goalkeeping level 1 and 2 Diplomas as well as his USSF D License.
