BERKELEY, Cali. – The Old Dominion women’s tennis team (2-1) defeated Xavier (0-3) by a 4-1 score in the 2017 ITA Kick-Off at the Hellman Tennis Complex on Monday. The Lady Monarchs were without its No. 97 nationally ranked freshman Holly Hutchinson.
Borislova Botusharova/Marijana Novakovic (6-2) won in No. 3 doubles and then Natalya Malenko/Nataliia Vlasova (7-6(11)) sealed the deal on Court No. 1 for the doubles point for ODU.
Natalya Malenko gave Old Dominion a 2-0 lead with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Vanina Iordanova.
Ingrid Vojcinakova won in straight sets in No. 2 singles against Cristina DiLorenzo, 6-3, 7-5 to extend the Lady Monarchs advantage to 3-0.
Borislova Botusharova clinched the victory for ODU on Court No. 1 when she got the better of Sydney Liggins 6-2, 6-7(6), 7-6(7).
Old Dominion will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 5, when the Lady Monarchs welcome Appalachian State to the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center for a 10:00 a.m. start. All admission is free.

There are 15 "regionals" played being played this week. In all, it’s the top 60 nationally ranked teams from last season competing in this Kick-Off Weekend.
Host sites for Kick-Off Weekend were determined using the final 2015-16 Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. A draft was held to fill the No.'s 2-4 seeds at all locations, again using the final national team rankings as a guide to determine draft order.
