COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Old Dominion men’s tennis team (6-1) lost its first match of the season to No. 3 nationally ranked Ohio State (6-0) by a 4-0 score on Saturday in the 2017 ITA Kick-Off Regional Championship. The Buckeyes now advance to next month's ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Virginia.
“I think the environment got us in doubles and the first 20 minutes or so in singles,” said ODU head coach Dominik Mueller. “After that we settled in, we gave Ohio State a real battle. I don't feel like losers today, but like learners. If we make the right conclusions after today and learn from it, this match will be another stepping stone in our season.”
Ohio State has two players ranked in the top five of the ITA singles rankings and a total of four players ranked in the top 53. Also, two of the OSU’s doubles tandems are nationally ranked in the top 55.
ODU has still won 26 of 30 singles matches this season and has claimed the doubles point in five of its opening seven matches.
