COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Old Dominion field hockey junior Danielle Grega has been selected to represent the United States as a member of the 2017 U-21 Women's National Team, as was announced by USA Field Hockey this week.

"This is a great opportunity for Danielle, and it is very well-deserved," head coach Andrew Griffiths said. "She has worked hard to put herself in position to earn selection, and I look forward to seeing her make an impact internationally as well."

According to the release from USA Field Hockey, "athletes were evaluated throughout the year at U-21 training camps, high performance and Junior National Camps, the Young Women's National Championship and during the college season. The selection process took into account the willingness to learn and athletes' abilities to improve and grow with the ultimate goal to become a national team player."

In her junior campaign, the Kingston, Pennsylvania native led the Lady Monarchs in scoring with 15 points off seven goals and one assist, scored two goals against Penn State and one goal against then-No. 7 Maryland. Grega was named First Team All-BIG EAST and earned NFHCA All-South Region second team honors.

Grega and the rest of the U.S. U-21 Women's National Team will attend two training camps before beginning competition, as the first is set to take place February 11-15, 2017 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. Here the U-21 USWNT will practice as well as scrimmage the U.S. Women's National Team. The second training camp weekend will take place March 17-19, 2017 at Duke University in Durham, N.C.
