HAMPTON, Va. – Jackie Stroud, an ODU redshirt junior defender from Raleigh, N.C., was named to the 2016 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Women’s Soccer All-State University Division Second Team on Tuesday afternoon.
Stroud, who was also named to All C-USA Team, scored goals against No. 17 South Florida and North Texas, both of which were at the top of their conferences.
As a team captain, Stroud started all 19 matches this season, playing nearly every minute. She tallied four points, which ranked fourth on the team, as a central defender. In October, Stroud was named the Conference USA Defender of the Week while helping her team punch a bid to its second consecutive C-USA Tournament birth.
The University of Virginia senior Alexis Shaffer earned Player of the Year honors, while Liberty University’s Gabrielle Farrell earned Rookie of the Year and her head coach Nate Norman took Coach of the Year honors. A total of 11 different schools had players recognized on the 2016 VaSID Women’s Soccer University Division All-State team.
The Virginia Sports Information Directors organization is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, independent institutions and community colleges from the state of Virginia. The purpose of the organization is to promote college athletics at all two- or four-year institutions. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a two or four-year college or conference located in Virginia, and whose area of responsibility lies within the area of sports information.
Each year since 1983, VaSID has voted All-State teams in a number of sports sponsored across the state, up to 29 by the end of 2015-16, as well as the Academic All-State team and All-Sports surveys conducted in the University (NCAA Division I) and College (all other) divisions.
