Monarchs Set to Face the Gamecocks in Quarterfinal Match

NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s soccer hits the road to participate in the 2016 Conference USA Men’s Soccer tournament in Huntington, West Virginia.

The Monarchs will face (RV) South Carolina in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nov. 9, around 4:30 p.m. The match will begin after the conclusion of game one between #12 Kentucky and (RV) New Mexico at 2 p.m.

OLD DOMINION (5-8-2, 2-5-1)
The Monarchs last played on Friday, Nov. 4, at (RV) New Mexico and fell in the regular season finale 2-0.  The Lobos held the Monarchs to just five shots on the night led by Niko Klosterhalfen’s three, two on goal.

Alex Tiesenhausen collected nine saves during the match, which tied his season-high recorded against then No. 23 Vermont on Sept. 9. Tiesenhausen has 68 saves on the season and averages 4.53 per match. He holds a 1.72 goals-against average after allowing 24 goals on the season.

Sebastian Hauret leads the Monarchs in points and assists with 10 and six, respectively. Jesse Miralrio and Klosterhalfen are tied for first with three goals apiece on the season.

(RV) SOUTH CAROLINA (10-6-1, 5-2-1)
The Gamecocks are coming off of a huge 2-1 upset win over No. 12 Kentucky in their season finale on Nov. 4. Bjorn Gudjonsson and Andre Street scored the two goals to give South Carolina the second seed in the 2016 C-USA Tournament.

Danny Deakin and Gudjonsson have been a dangerous duo for the Gamecocks this season. They have scored 14 of the 27 goals and account for 35 points between the two. Deakin leads the team with 20 points on seven goals and six assists while Gudjonsson has 15 points on sevens goals and an assist.

In net for South Carolina is William Pyle who helped them secure the 3-2 win over the Monarchs earlier this season. Pyle has given up just 14 goals in the 15 matches he has played. He holds a 0.91 goals-against average while collecting 56 saves for a .800 save percentage and four shutouts.

SERIES HISTORY
The Gamecocks and Monarchs have squared off once already this season. South Carolina narrowly edged out ODU 3-2 in Norfolk, Va. on Oct. 22.

The match marks the ninth time the two squads have faced off on the soccer pitch and the second time in the Conference USA tournament. The series record stands tied at four wins apiece between the Gamecocks and Monarchs.

TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
All matches will be played at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex in Huntington, W.Va. on the campus of Marshall University. Live stats will be available for fans to follow and all matches will be broadcast on Conference USA TV.
