NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion basketball team (4-2) took down Dartmouth (0-5) by a 59-47 score on Wednesday night at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Ahmad Caver (six rebounds, five assists, two steals and one block) and Jordan Baker (four rebounds and three steals) paced the Monarchs with 14 apiece, respectively.

Trey Porter hauled down a game-high 10 rebounds in 17 minutes of work to compliment four points and two blocks. Also in double-figures for Old Dominion was Brandan Stith (six rebounds) with 11. ODU held advantages in points off turnovers (19-2) and turnovers (16-8).

“Give Dartmouth credit, they played really hard and that was a hard-fought game,” said ODU head coach Jeff Jones. “For the most part, our defense was pretty dang good, but we just struggled to put the ball in the basket.”

The Monarchs defense held Dartmouth to 35.6% (16-45) shooting from the floor and 36.4% (8-22) from three-point range for the game.

The Big Green started the second half on a 14-5 run, trimming their deficit to two, 38-36, with 13 minutes remaining in regulation. By the under-eight media timeout (7:34), Old Dominion held onto a two-point lead, 43-41. ODU then went on a 10-3 run, taking a 53-44 lead, before ultimately claiming a 59-47 victory on Wednesday night in Norfolk.

In what was the second all-time meeting between the two programs and first since the 1976-77 season, the Monarchs jumped out to a 24-12 lead 12 minutes into the opening half.

ODU claimed a 33-22 lead at halftime, led by Ahmad Caver’s 10 points on 4-6 shooting from the floor.

Old Dominion hits the road for its next two contests, beginning on Dec. 3 at Towson before traveling to No. 21 Rhode Island for a Dec. 6 showdown against the Rams. The Monarchs will return home to take on VCU on Dec. 10, on a night that ODU will retire Kent Bazemore’s jersey.
