NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's basketball team fell to William & Mary, 69-58, on Sunday afternoon at the Ted Constant Center.

"My hat goes off to William & Mary. That's a great team," said head coach Karen Barefoot. "After halftime, we really came out with some good energy. We did a really good job of coming out and being aggressive and that's what got us back into the game. We need other players to step up besides Jennie [Simms] and Destinee [Young]. We have to make sure we don't make the same mistakes down the stretch. Later in the season, we want to think that this game made us better as a team."

Jennie Simms paced Old Dominion (1-1), tallying a game-high 28 points and adding eight rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks. Destinee Young recorded her second consecutive double-double to start the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

William & Mary (2-1) took the early advantage, leading 16-15 at the end of the opening quarter. The Tribe then outscored the Lady Monarchs, 16-9, in the second quarter to carry a 32-24 lead into halftime. The Tribe then opened the second half with a 4-0 burst to take their biggest lead of the game at 36-24.

The Lady Monarchs rallied late in the third and into the fourth, as Young's layup closed the gap to four at 54-50 with 7:23 remaining, but the Tribe's Marlena Tremba connected on her fourth three-pointer of the game to push the W&M lead back to seven. The Tribe would then hold for the 69-58 victory.

Overall, ODU outrebounded William & Mary, 46-36, and held a 34-19 edge in points in the paint. The Lady Monarchs shot 41.4 percent from the field, while holding the Tribe to 39.7 shooting.

Bianca Boggs led W&M with 18 points, while Tremba added 12 points and Victoria Reynolds tallied 11.
