NORFOLK, Va. -- The 25th-ranked Old Dominion wrestling team (0-1, 0-1 MAC) will head to Chapel Hill Saturday for an 8 p.m. match against North Carolina (0-0, 0-0 ACC).
ODU is coming off a 36-3 loss against third-ranked Missouri last weekend. Fifth-year senior Jack Dechow defeated two-time All-American and top-10 ranked Willie Miklus, 6-5, at 184 to give the Monarchs their lone points of the dual meet.
Dechow moved up to No. 10 at 184 in this week's InterMat poll, giving the Monarchs their second top-10 wrestler, as redshirt junior Kevin Beazley is also ranked 10th at 197. Sophomore Seldon Wright remained No. 14 at 165 this week, and senior Brandon Jeske entered InterMat's rankings at No. 19 at 125.
The North Carolina Tar Heels enter their first dual meet of the season Saturday after back-to-back weekends at individual tournaments. UNC opened up the year at the Southeast Open in Roanoke and competed last weekend at the Journeymen Classic in Troy, New York.
UNC is led by All-Americans Joey Ward, at 141, and Ethan Ramos, at 174. Ward is coming off a first-place finish at the Journeymen Classic and is 6-1 on the season after placing seventh at the 2016 NCAA Championships to claim his first All-American honors. Ramos, who took sixth at the 2015 NCAA Championships to claim All-American status, is 2-1 on the year.
