AKRON, Ohio -- The Old Dominion men's golf team, led by top-ten finisher Michael Bakker, finished 14th at the Firestone Intercollegiate at Firestone Country Club on Tuesday.
"Michael Bakker played very well for the entire tournament," said head coach Murray Rudisill. "I was very disappointed with the team's performance, however, especially after a big win just a week ago."
Bakker (-4) finished in a tie for eighth overall and was one of just 19 of the 87 competitors to finish the tournament under par. The South Africa native, who was the lowest-scoring Monarch in all three rounds, tied for the tournament lead in birdies with 13.
Calvin Greschner (+7) was the only other ODU individual in the top 50, tying for 44th. Casper Aneman (T66, +12), David Langley (T72, +14) and Antonio Cruz-Conde (T77, +16) rounded out the Monarch lineup.
Cincinnati (-14), led by individual champion Austin Squires (-11), won the team title.
The Monarchs will take a two-week hiatus before hosting the 2016 Outer Banks Intercollegiate at Kilmarlic Golf Course in Powells Point, North Carolina, Oct. 23-25.
