DENTON, Texas – Despite Jackie Stroud’s 74th minute goal off a Kathryn Hill assist, the Old Dominion’s women’s soccer team (5-11-0, 3-5-0 C-USA) dropped a 2-1 decision at North Texas (12-4-1, 7-1-0 C-USA) on Sunday afternoon at the Mean Green Soccer Stadium.

"This was always going to be a challenging two games in Texas against the top two teams,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind. “Today, however, I felt we were very unfortunate to lose, given the play, they basically took advantage of the few opportunities that they got. In the second half, I felt we dominated for long spells and created more goal chances than we have in recent games. We had a few freshmen that also stepped up with mature performances this weekend, which gives the squad a boost. While disappointing to lose today having so much of the game, I'm really proud of our spirit and performance. Both of these will be crucial components for us in the final few games."

The Lady Monarchs out-shot the Mean Green 14-11 for the match, while each squad attempted six corners in the 90 minutes.

Stroud scored her second goal of the season to cut ODU’s deficit in half with 16 minutes remaining in regulation. The assist was Hill’s second of the season.

NT got on the scoreboard first in the 15th minute as Hailey Sutton scored her first goal of the season off a Rachel Holden pass to give the Mean Green an early 1-0 lead.

In the 34th minute, North Texas’ Marchelle Davis scored her seventh goal of the season off a Anna Flobeck assist to give the Mean Green a 2-0 advantage.

Miranda Schoening was credited with seven saves for NT.

Old Dominion will remain on the road for their next two and final regular season matches of the 2016 season. First ODU will take on WKU in Bowling Green, Ky. on Fri, Oct 28, before the regular season finale at FIU in Miami on Oct. 30. Both games can viewed live in HD on C-USA TV.
