Lady Monarchs Upended at Rice, 2-0

HOUSTON, Texas – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (5-10-0, 3-4-0 C-USA) was upended at Rice (9-4-1, 7-2-0 C-USA) by a 2-0 score on Friday night at Holloway Field, which served as Senior Night for the Owls.

Krista Moisio made three first half saves to keep the Owls off the scoreboard in the first half, as neither side would score in the opening 45 minutes. Rice out-shot the Lady Monarchs 5-1 and attempted the first half’s only two corners.

1:27 into the second half, Rice’s Aliza Wolfe scored her fourth goal of the season from 27-yards out to give the Owls a 1-0 advantage.

Nia Stallings scored her team leading fifth goal of the season in the 79th minute off an assist by Jenny Fichera, giving Rice a 2-0 lead and ultimately victory on Friday night in Houston.

For the match, Rice held advantages in shots (12-4) and corners (4-1). Moisio ended the contest with four saves in 90 minutes of work.

Old Dominion will be right back in action on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. EST against North Texas (11-4-1, 6-1-0), who is currently in a tie for second with Rice in the C-USA standings; ODU is in a tie for ninth place.
