NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion men’s soccer team hosts Conference USA opponent (RV) South Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex. The match is the men’s first game back in Norfolk since hosting No. 9 Charlotte on Sept. 17.

About Old Dominion
The Monarchs got back on the pitch for the first time in two weeks in the 2-0 loss at No. 20 Kentucky last Saturday, Oct. 15. Old Dominion is 3-5-2 on the season and 0-2-1 in Conference USA action.
Jesse Miralrio continues to lead the Monarchs attacking front with a team-high 32 shots, 12 coming on goal. Miralrio is one of three Monarchs with two goals on the season. Niko Klosterhalfen and Doni Pollock join him as the three combine for six of the teams 11 goals.
Sebastien Hauret still holds the team-high in assists with four on the season as well as total points with six.
Old Dominion has played around with their defensive line-up as 11 different athletes have made a start in the back half of the field. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Alex Tiesenhausen fortifies the back line with a .750 save percentage, a conference-leading 4.80 saves per game and 48 total saves.
On the season the ODU defense has recorded two shutouts keeping Radford, then ranked 18th, and UAB off of the scoreboard.
About South Carolina
South Carolina fell earlier this week on Oct. 18 to 2nd ranked Wake Forest 1-0 in Columbia, S.C. in non-conference action. The loss snapped an eight-match unbeaten streak that dated back to Sept. 13. On the season the Gamecocks hold an 8-4-1 record and are 3-0-1 in C-USA.
Senior midfield Danny Deakin leads the Gamecocks in goals, assists and points. Through 13 matches, Deakin has collected six goals and four assists for a total of 13 points. Kevin Walker sits second in goals with four while Luca Mayr and Bjorn Gudjonsson are tied for third with three apiece.
The Gamecock defense has posted four shutouts this season and is cemented by junior goalkeeper William Pyle. He has played 1017:37 minutes allowing only seven goals for a 0.62 goals against average. Pyle’s has tallied 38 saves through 11 matches for a .844 saves percentage and has the four shutouts to his name.
