LEXINGTON, KY. – The Old Dominion men’s soccer team fell 2-0 to the No. 20 Kentucky Wildcats Saturday night at The Bell Soccer Complex in Lexington, Ky. in Conference USA action.
Goals by Jordan Wilson and Connor Probert propelled the Cats to their seventh shutout of the season. The Monarchs fall to 3-5-2 (0-2-1 C-USA) while the Wildcats improve to 8-3-2 (3-2 C-USA).
Kentucky’s first goal came in the third minute on a penalty kick by Wilson following the Jimmy Filerman foul. The Monarchs held the Wildcats scoreless for the following 75 minutes, but gave up the second goal of the night to Probert on the double assist in the 78th minute.
Alex Tiesenhausen falls to 3-5-2 giving up two goals while collecting five saves. With his five saves on the night, Tiesenhausen moved into 2nd in career saves with 207. He passed Joey Mallia who had collected 206 career saves from 1987-1990. Evan Newton holds the career saves record with 254 saves from 2006-10. The Wildcats held an 8-4 shot advantage while the Monarchs led 3-2 in corner kicks.
Old Dominion has a week to recover before hosting South Carolina (RV) on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex. The Monarchs are using this match as their Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer fundraiser game and encourage everyone to come out and cheer on the Monarchs.
