NORFOLK, Va. – Three Lady Monarchs scored their first goals of the season as the Old Dominion women’s soccer team (4-7-0, 2-1-0 C-USA) completed its second straight shutout in Conference USA play with a convincing 3-0 victory over UTSA (5-6-0, 1-1-0 C-USA) on Friday night at the ODU Soccer Complex.

It didn’t take the Lady Monarchs long to get on the scoreboard, as Deirdre Bradley fed defender Maddie Morningstar, who put away her first goal of the season in the 9th minute to give ODU an early 1-0 edge.

Moments later, Iris Achterhof played a corner into the box, which found Kira Laurento, who also scored her first goal of the 2016 season to give Old Dominion a 2-0 lead heading into the locker rooms at half time. The assist was Achterhof’s second of the year.

At the half, Old Dominion held advantages in shots (10-4), as well as corners (4-2).

In the 62nd minute, the Lady Soccer Monarch again found success off a corner kick, when Achterhof played the ball into Natalie Johnson who was credited with her second assist of the season on Devyn Hannis’ first goal of the year to give ODU a 3-0 lead in the 62nd minute.

For the match, Old Dominion outshot the Roadrunners 14-6 and held a 7-5 advantage for corners.

Old Dominion will be right back in action at the ODU Soccer Complex to take on UTEP (8-2-2, 1-1-0) on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 12:30 p.m. The match can be viewed live in HD through C-USA TV. All dogs are welcome to the game on Sunday for ODU’s ‘Sunday Dog Days’ promotion.
