NORFOLK, Va. -- The 14th-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team (5-3, 1-1 BIG EAST) will host conference foe Liberty (3-5, 2-0 BIG EAST) this Friday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex before traveling to Charlottesville to take on No. 12 Virginia (6-4, 1-1 ACC) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Lady Monarchs are coming off a 5-0 routing of Georgetown last Friday in Washington, D.C. Leading scorer Danielle Grega notched two goals while Casey Dolan, Megan Byas and Carrie Sensenig also found the back of the cage for ODU. Goalkeeper Kealsie Robles made five saves en route to completing her first shutout of the season.
After starting the season with four consecutive losses to nationally-ranked teams, Liberty comes to Norfolk Friday with a 3-5 season record and a 2-0 mark in BIG EAST competition. The Lady Flames are riding a two-game winning streak into the weekend after defeating William & Mary, 3-2, on Sunday and Quinnipiac, 6-1, last Friday.
Liberty is led in scoring by twin sisters Serena Barr, who has tallied four goals and six assists, and Bethany Barr, who has three goals and five assists. Goalkeeper Allison Schaefer has made 72 saves while registering a save percentage of .722.
12th-ranked Virginia enters Sunday's battle of top 20 teams with a 6-4 record and a 1-1 mark within ACC play. UVA is coming off back-to-back road wins against Fairfield, 4-0, and No. 15 Boston College, 2-1 OT.
Against common opponents, the Cavaliers fell to Penn State, 3-0, lost to Delaware, 2-0, and were defeated by UConn, 8-0. Lucy Hyams leads the team in scoring with three goals and six assists on the year, while Tara Vittese has five goals to her credit.
