BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Old Dominion men’s soccer tied UAB 0-0 in double overtime Saturday night at BBVA Compass Soccer Stadium in a Conference USA match. Alex Tiesenhausen collected seven saves in his second shutout of the season helping the Monarchs move to 3-3-2 on the season and 0-1-1 in CUSA competition.
The Monarchs were held to a total of just 10 shots on the night while the Blazers collected 16, seven coming on frame. Tiesenhausen stopped all shots on goal for seven saves, four in the first half, redeeming his three goals allowed on Tuesday at VCU.
Jesse Miralrio led ODU with three shots while Roger Rojas-Goodbold had two. Five other Monarchs took a shot each, but only Miralrio and Jimmy Filerman were on frame as Joe Kuzminsky of UAB stopped both of the ODU attempts for his fourth shutout of the season. The Monarchs held a slight advantage in corner kicks with nine to the Blazers six.
“I am very proud of this young team as we battled hard for 110 minutes against a good UAB team for the tie,” said head coach Alan Dawson. “This will prove to be a valuable point for us down the road in CUSA. We must continue to improve and take positive steps going forward.”
Up next the Monarchs head to Conway, S.C. where they will take on Coastal Carolina in a non-conference matchup. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kick on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the CCU Soccer Stadium in Conway, S.C. and marks the end of a three game road trip for Old Dominion.
