NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (3-6-0, 1-1-0 C-USA) took down Florida Atlantic (5-5-1, 1-1-0 C-USA) by a 1-0 score in the Conference USA home opener on Friday night at the ODU Soccer Complex in front of a season-high crowd of 702. The clean-sheet was the first for ODU this year.

In the 38th minute, Madison Hogan fed Iris Achterhof, who beat the Owls’ keeper, giving ODU an 1-0 lead. The goal was Achterhof’s third of the season, while the assist was Hogan’s first this year. The goal marked the first one on FAU in a total of 259 minutes. Both Achterhof and Hogan are tied for first on the team for points with seven each, respectively.

The Lady Soccer Monarchs would take the one goal advantage into the locker room with them, after out-shooting Florida Atlantic 8-3. Old Dominion also held a 3-1 advantage in corners in the first 45 minutes of action.

Old Dominion would fire off six second half shots compared to FAU’s five, while the Owls attempted four corners in the second 45 minutes to ODU’s two.

Krista Moisio compiled five saves in net for the Lady Monarchs, while FAU’s Sydney Drinkwater tallied six.

Madison Hogan led Old Dominion in shots with four, while Natalie Johnson and Iris Achterhof each had three.

Old Dominion will be right back action on Sunday, Sept. 25, when the Lady Soccer Monarchs host No. 17 nationally ranked and undefeated South Florida (7-0-0, 0-0-0 AAC) at the ODU Soccer Complex at 7:00 p.m.

All dogs are welcome to the game on Sunday for ODU’s ‘Sunday Dog Days’ promotion.

ODU Hall of Famer Jen Henley will be recognized at halftime.

No. 17 South Florida enters Sunday match with a perfect 7-0-0 record. The Bulls have scored a total of 20 goals already this season, while only allowing four. Over the last four matches, USF has outscored its opponents 11-0.
