PHILADELHIA, Penn. – The Old Dominion men’s tennis team completed its first competition of the 2016 fall season this weekend at the Penn Invitational at the Hamlin and Hecht Tennis Courts. The Invite was a three-day tournament consisting of Brown, Navy, Columbia, Furman, Cornell, Georgetown, Yale, William & Mary and host Penn.
The weekend was highlighted by ODU’s Javier Jover Maestre taking down first-team All-Ivy selection and No. 120 nationally ranked Kyle Mautner (6-4, 5-7, 10-8).
“I think we got what we came for, playing a lot of matches to see where we are,” said ODU head coach Dominik Mueller. “It's early in the season and we have a better idea on what we need to work on. We will have a short turn around before we head out to Athens and Elon next weekend, but we got to take advantage of the short time to get better.”
Old Dominion took on Penn in singles and doubles and Cornell in doubles on Friday. On Saturday, the Monarchs squared-off against Brown in singles and doubles and Furman in singles. Today, ODU faced Georgetown in singles and doubles.
