CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (2-6-0, 0-1-0 C-USA) fell to Charlotte (5-4-0, 1-0-0 C-USA) by a 2-1 score in the Conference USA opener on Sunday afternoon. Goalkeeper Krista Moisio compiled a career high eight saves for the Lady Monarchs.
ODU’s Kathryn Hill scored an unassisted goal in the 70th minute to cut the Lady Soccer Monarchs’ deficit in half, 2-1; however the 49ers would hold off Old Dominion in the remaining 10 minutes of regulation to claim victory.
Charlotte struck just four minutes into the match, when Martha Thomas finished an Emily Truelove pass, to give the 49ers a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
At the half, ODU held a 2-0 advantage for corners, while Charlotte out-shot the Lady Monarchs, 9-4.
Charlotte took a 2-0 lead when Riley Orr sent a ball in off a set piece, which went off Megan Green’s back and into Old Dominion’s net in the 70th minute.
For the match, the 49ers held a 19-10 advantage for shots, while ODU took four corners to Charlotte’s one.
Old Dominion will return home to host FAU on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7:00 p.m., before the Lady Monarchs welcome South Florida to the ODU Soccer Complex on Sunday, Sept. 25th.
