NORFOLK, Va. -- The No. 13 Old Dominion field hockey team suffered a 2-1 setback to James Madison Sunday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex. JMU improved to 5-2, 0-0 (CAA) while the Lady Monarchs fell to 4-3, 0-1 (BIG EAST).

"It was a disappointing performance from the team today," head coach Andrew Griffiths said. "After playing with good focus on Friday, we played much more individually today than we want to. Our penalty corner execution was poor today, and we had a number of those opportunities which we failed to convert. We are going to have to be more consistent individually and as a team in our upcoming games to get where we want to get to."

JMU got on the board early, as Miranda Rigg scored off an assist from Ashley Gippe in the opening minute to put the Dukes up, 1-0.

In the 20th minute, James Madison's Florien Sondern extended the Dukes' lead to 2-0, firing a ball into the net off a rebound.  At the half, JMU held a 5-4 advantage in shots and maintained a 2-1 advantage in corners.

The Lady Monarchs got on the board in 59th minute when Casey Dolan scored off an assist from freshman Julia Demeester, cutting the deficit in half.

ODU was awarded successive penalty corners as time expired, but the Dukes were able to hold off the Lady Monarchs' scoring attempts to seal the 2-1 victory.

For the game, Old Dominion outshot JMU 10-5, as the Lady Monarchs attempted six shots in the second half. ODU also maintained a 5-2 advanatge in penalty corners.
