NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s soccer hosts Loyola (Md.) in a Friday night showdown at the ODU Soccer Complex on Sept. 2, at 7 p.m. All home and away conference matches can be seen on Conference USA TV, by CLICKING HERE.

The Monarchs (1-0-1) are coming off a 1-1 tie against Stetson on Aug. 28, while the Greyhounds have dropped both matches to date, most recently against Saint Francis 2-0.

ODU enters the match after picking up its first win of the season against UNLV in a 3-1 match Friday, Aug. 26. The Monarchs followed with a 1-1 draw against the Hatters of Stetson on Sunday, Aug. 28.

Four goals by three athletes comprise the scoring summary for the Monarchs thus far in 2016. Sophomore Niko Klosterhalfen leads the way with two goals, which earned him the first C-USA offensive player of the week laurels of 2016 and the first of his career.

Junior Tyler Edwards and senior Cole Stringer have also connected with the back of the net, each scoring a goal for the Silver and Blue. Sebastien Hauret and CJ Taylor are the two athletes credited with the four assists this season. Hauret has recorded three assists, all collected in the match against UNLV, while Taylor connected with Stringer off a corner in Sunday’s double overtime match.

Alex Tiesenhausen has played all 200 minutes in net collecting seven saves on 18 total shots by opponents.

Loyola enters the match Friday on short rest, having played Saint Francis on Monday, August 29. The Greyhounds fell 2-0 to the Red Flash earning just six shots and two corners during the match.

Freshman forward Brian Saramago leads the Greyhounds with 10 of 25 shots, while sophomore midfielder Gabriel Carlsson is close behind with seven. Senior goalkeeper Matt Sanchez tallied four saves against Saint Francis and has seven so far this season in 180 minutes of play.

The two teams have crossed paths 22 times since 1975 when the series began. Loyola holds a six-win advantage with the series sitting at 7-13-2 over four decades. In the last encounter between the two squads, Old Dominion earned the shutout win 3-0 on Sept. 5, 2015 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Following the match against Loyola, Old Dominion is back in action Sept. 9 & 11, at the 41st Annual ODU Soccer Classic. Participating in this years classic are Vermont, Radford and VCU, who is co-hosting the tournament at their stadium in Richmond, Virginia.
