NORFOLK, Va. -- The No. 20 Old Dominion field hockey team (1-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) will host former CAA rival and 14th-ranked Delaware (2-0, 0-0 CAA) on Friday, Sept. 2 at 6 p.m. for its home opener at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
The Lady Monarchs enter Friday’s contest after splitting games on the road last weekend. ODU fell in the season opener last Friday at No. 18 Penn State, 6-2, before upending American on Sunday, 2-1.
Junior forward Danielle Grega scored two goals against the ranked Nittany Lions and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Against American, goals by freshmen Erin Huffman and Ashleigh Thomas lifted the Lady Monarchs to victory over the Eagles for the first time since the 2013 season.
The No. 14 Delaware Blue Hens come to Norfolk Friday after defeating Ohio State in back-to-back games last weekend, winning 5-2 on Saturday and 6-3 on Sunday. Sophomore Greta Nauck earned CAA Player of the Week accolades and was the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I weekly award winner after scoring four goals and eight points in Saturday’s victory.
Last season, the Hens finished 16-6 overall and compiled a 4-2 mark within the CAA. After claiming the CAA conference crown with a win over James Madison, Delaware fell to Virginia, 4-3 OT, in the opening round of the NCAA Championships.
