NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion women’s soccer team (0-1, 0-0 C-USA) will host its 2016 regular season home opener against Richmond (1-0, 0-0 A-10) this Sunday, Aug. 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex.

Sundays are now “Dog Days” at all home matches this year for ODU women’s soccer. The Sunday Dog Days promotion will allow fans to bring their dogs, on a leash, to any soccer game that takes place on a Sunday. There is no charge for bringing a dog. During soccer games, dogs will be allowed on the grass area on the south and east sides of the ODU Soccer Complex.

The Lady Soccer Monarchs are coming off a tough 2-1 loss at George Mason in the regular season opener on Friday night. Old Dominion freshman Alex Davidson scored her first goal of her collegiate career in the 73rd minute, tying the match, 1-1, with 17 minutes remaining in regulation.

For the match, ODU dominated the shot-count 21-6, as well as the corner kick tally, 5-2. GMU’s goalkeeper, Kirsten Glad, was credited with 10 saves on the night, while ODU keeper, Krista Moisio made three in her Lady Monarch debut.

"This game taught us some important lessons,” said ODU head coach Angie Hind. “We struggled in the first half and respect to George Mason, they took the game to us and we really couldn't get going. In the second half, we showed much more of what we are capable of and dominated for long periods. After so much pressure, we eventually equalized and got ourselves right back in the game. But to lose the second goal in the nature that we did certainly provides a learning moment. Like always, we will learn and get ready for the next challenge, which will be another competitive game on Sunday against Richmond.”

Richmond enters Sunday’s match with a 1-0 overall record after downing Longwood, 3-0, in Farmville on Friday.
