NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s soccer team hosts Army in its second and final pre-season exhibition match on Saturday, August 20, at 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex.

Old Dominion is a young team this season with 12 players, including 10 freshmen, making their collegiate debut. Thirteen Monarchs who saw playing time last season return for the 2016 slate led by five seniors.

Among the returning athletes is redshirt senior Alex Tiesenhausen, the 2016 C-USA pre-season All-Conference goalkeeper. Senior Jesse Miralrio and junior Niko Klosterhalfen return as the leading goal scorers tied with four apiece, while Klosterhalfen is also the returning assists leader.

The Monarchs have one game playing together this pre-season incorporating the new faces into the lineup. They played an exhibition match at William and Mary on August 15 that ended in a 3-3 tie against the Tribe.

Like the Monarchs the Black Knights also added a large freshman class to the 2016 squad. Twelve newcomers join 14 returners, six of whom are seniors this season.

Five of their seven goal scorers from the 2015 season return including senior forward Nick Williams, the leading returning scorer with three goals. Also returning are senior Christian Ollen and junior Shaban Abousaud who tied for second with two goals each last season.

Looking ahead, the Monarchs play host to the Rebels of UNLV on Saturday, August 26, for their regular season home opener. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex.
