NORFOLK, Va. – Former Old Dominion men’s basketball star Kent Bazemore recently agreed to a four-year, $70 million contract that will keep him with the Atlanta Hawks. Trey Freeman, another former Monarch standout, will be playing for the Houston Rockets Las Vegas NBA Summer League team, which will take place from July 8-18.
Bazemore (’12) spent his first two seasons with the Golden State Warriors, before playing the 2013-14 season with the Los Angeles Lakers. He has played the past two seasons for the Atlanta Hawks. In 2015-16, Bazemore averaged career-highs for starts (68), minutes (27.8), points (11.6), rebounds (5.1) and steals (1.3), to go along with 2.3 assists per contest.
“During free agency, I knew in my heart that Atlanta is where I wanted to stay,” said Bazemore. “This city has become my home and it’s where I want to continue to grow both personally and professionally for the next four years and beyond. It’s the city that my family and I want to be in.”
As for Freeman, the 67-game Las Vegas Summer League is an 11-day showcase that will run from Friday, July 8 through Monday, July 18 at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
ESPN and NBA TV will provide non-stop coverage of the summer league. ESPN will present all 67 games from Las Vegas across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPNU and WatchESPN. Fans can also log on to ESPN3, where all 67 games will be live-streamed.

Freeman (’16) earned First Team All Conference USA honors for the second straight season and most recently led the C-USA in scoring, averaging 22.1 points per game, which ranked No. 11 in the country. Freeman’s output improved to 25.3 points per game against conference competition, including five games with 30 or more points against C-USA foes.
He scored 2,304 points during his collegiate career, while pouring in an ODU all-time record of 838 points last season, which ranked No. 3 in Division I/No. 1 in the C-USA. Freeman was also named to the All-Conference USA Academic Team for the second straight season. The senior captain from Virginia Beach, Va. ranked No. 1 in the country for made field goals this season with 323.
After helping lead the Monarchs to the conference tournament championship, Freeman was named to the Conference USA All-Tournament Team, setting records for most points scored in tournament history with 109, as well as most points scored in a single game in tournament history with 42. For the tournament, Freeman averaged 27.3 points per game.
Freeman was later named to the All-Tournament Team for the inaugural Vegas 16 Tournament, while earning Tournament MVP honors.
Freeman became the first player in league history to be named C-USA Player of the Week in three consecutive weeks. Freeman reached double figures in all but one game last season.
