ODU Baseball Falls in Game Three at Charlotte, 5-2

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Old Dominion fell in game three of the weekend series at Charlotte, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium. ODU moved to 29-18 overall and 12-12 in Conference USA action, while Charlotte improved to 20-28 on the season and 9-15 in league action.

Old Dominion continued its Sunday woes, as it fell to 3-6 when competing on Sunday. The Monarchs dug themselves a hole, as the team fell behind, 5-0, by the fifth inning. ODU put its first run on the board in the sixth inning, as Connor Myers knocked a RBI single to left field, his 32nd of the season.

The Monarchs continued to rally in the top of the eighth inning by adding one more run off a Kurt Sinnen homer to right field, but the 49ers forced ODU to leave a runner stranded at second. Philip Perry entered in relief for Charlotte in the top of the ninth and retired 3-of-4 ODU batters, including two strikeouts, as the game ended in favor of Charlotte.

Zach Rutherford led ODU with two hits, while Myers and Sinnen recorded the only RBIs of the game. Adam Bainbridge suffered the loss, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing all five Charlotte runs.

Derek Gallello led the 49ers with a 3-for-4 showing, while four other playes recorded two hits. Logan Sherer and Zach Jarrett also added two RBIs to their stat lines. Holden Capps earned the win after pitching eight innings and allowed just six hits, two runs and fanned three.

The Monarchs will be back in action at Liberty in Lynchburg, Va. on Wednesday, May 11 at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3, as well as Monarch Media (audio only). Live stats will be available once the contest begins on libertyflames.com.
