KENNESAW, Ga. -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team faces Detroit in the 2016 Atlantic Sun Championship on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Kennesaw State's Fifth Third Bank Stadium. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN3.

ODU is seeking its second conference championship in program history. The only prior conference title came in 1995 in the CAA when ODU defeated Delaware, 9-7, in overtime. Heather Holt was the goalkeeper for the 1995 squad.

The Lady Monarchs' last appearance in a conference title game was 2003, when the team lost to James Madison in the CAA final.

A win over Detroit on Sunday would also send ODU to its first-ever NCAA Tournament. Last year, No. 3 seed Detroit upset No. 2 seed Old Dominion in the A-Sun semifinals, 14-11.

ODU, the No. 2 seed, defeated No. 3 seed Furman, 10-9, in the semifinals. Morgan Marrale scored the game-winning goal on a free-position attempt with just over two minutes and Ashmore Standing added a team-high four goals.

Detroit, the No. 4 seed, is coming off of a titanic 9-8 upset over reigning champion and top-seeded Jacksonville. The Titans are led by A-Sun Freshman of the Year Kaitlyn Wandelt, who scored a game-high three goals in the semifinal win.
