Moundir Named C-USA Player of the Year; Nicolussi Named Top Newcomer

IRVING, Texas – Old Dominion sophomore Adam Moundir was named Conference USA Player of the Year and Most Outstanding Singles Player of the C-USA Championship, while garnering All-First Team honors for both singles as well as doubles. Fellow ODU sophomore Jacob Nicolussi was named the C-USA Newcomer of the Year. Michael Weindl and Aziz Kijametovic represented the Tennis Monarchs on the All-Conference USA Singles Second Team.

Adam Moundir was named the C-USA Player of the Year, the Most Outstanding Player of the Conference USA Tournament and earned All-Conference USA Singles First Team recognition after compiling a 17-5 record in the No. 1 slot and posting 5-0 mark against C-USA opponents. He claimed victory in 16 of his last 18 matches and ended the year on a 12-match win-streak. His last loss came on Feb. 28. Furthermore, the Swiss product defeated three nationally ranked opponents, including a straight-set win over No. 18 Dovydas Sakinis of Dartmouth.

Moundir went 3-0 at the Conference USA Tournament in singles and 5-0 against C-USA opponents for the season. He was a two-time C-USA Player of the Week, as well as a C-USA Honor Roll honoree.

Jacob Nicolussi was named the Conference USA Newcomer of the Year after tallying an 11-7 record, while playing in the No. 3-6 spots. He won eight matches in a row at one point this season, and also won two of his last three singles matches. In doubles with teammate Michael Weindl in the No. 1 or No. 2 slots, the two combined to go 12-5 overall and started the season winning 10 of their first 11 matches. Nicolussi  and Weindl defeated No. 72 nationally ranked Nick Horton/Thomas Weigel of No. 25 NC State by a 6-2 score, which helped propel ODU to upsetting the Wolfpack in Raleigh. Nicolussi earned Conference USA Honor Roll recognition for his work in the classroom.

Michael Weindl was named to the All-Conference USA Singles Second Team, as he tallied a 12-5 record, while winning in 11 of his last 13 matches. Weindl went 4-2 in singles in matches in which ODU faced nationally ranked opponents. He went 2-0 at the Conference USA Tournament. Weindl was named C-USA Player of the Week on Feb. 23. For his work in the classroom, Weindl earned a spot on the Conference USA Honor Roll.

Old Dominion freshman, Aziz Kijametovic, was also named to the All-Conference USA Singles Second Team, after going 17-4 in singles in the No. 1-3 spots. Kijametovic started his college career winning 12 straight matches. When ODU faced nationally ranked opponents, Kijametovic rose to the occasion, recording a 4-1 record. He was also Conference USA Honor Roll recipient.

Kijametovic along with teammate Adam Moundir were named to the All-Conference USA Doubles First Team, as the tandem stayed nationally ranked throughout the season, ending the year at No. 66 with an 11-5 record at No. 1 doubles. The two ended the season winning six in a row, highlighted by going a perfect 2-0 at the C-USA Tournament.
