NORFOLK, Va. -- Sophomore Old Dominion field hockey player Danielle Grega was recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Women’s At-Large Team, as announced by the organization on Thursday afternoon. Grega became the first ODU female student-athlete to earn the accolade since Maeghan Pardy from rowing was recognized in 2013.

A Kingston, Pa. native, Grega earned first team honors after posting a 3.98 grade-point average in biology and tying for the team lead with 23 points, which ranked sixth in the BIG EAST. She also led the Lady Monarchs with 11 goals during her sophomore campaign, the fifth best mark in the conference, and scored two game-winning goals. A standout in the classroom, Grega earned ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA National Academic Squad, Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Scholar of Distinction, C-USA Commisioner's Honor Roll laurels and was a recipient of the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal this year.

The Academic All-District teams include the student-athletes from eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the fifth year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
