MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team recorded its program-record 14th victory of the season on Sunday, defeating Central Michigan, 17-8, in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

In addition to the single-season win record, Ashmore Standing scored five goals to move into second place on the ODU all-time scoring list and Connor Carson set the single-season draw control record with her 64th of the year.

"It is fun. I think the girls are really excited about it," said head coach Heather Holt about the record-setting victory. "We started off the game really well, so it was a good win and a good weekend overall."

On a not-so-pleasant 45-degree day with rain and wind, Old Dominion (14-3, 7-1 A-Sun) opened the game with a 6-0 lead for the second consecutive match. Five different players scored goals in the six-goal run in the first 17 minutes of play, including two from Mary Margaret McCaleb.

Central Michigan (6-9, 2-5 A-Sun) scored its only goal of the half with 15:45 remaining to cut the lead to five at 6-1. ODU responded as McCaleb completed the first half hat trick and the Lady Monarchs added two more goals to carry a 9-1 lead into halftime.

In the first half, ODU fired off 22 shots, while holding CMU to just one shot and forcing the Chipperwas into a dozen turnovers.

CMU opened the second half with consecutive scores to again cut the lead to six, but Megan Topper answered for the Lady Monarchs with her second score of the game. Another pair of Chippewa goals closed the gap to five, the smallest lead for ODU in the second half, at 10-5.

The Lady Monarchs answered, closing the game with a 6-3 run en route to the 16-8 victory. Overall, ODU outshot the Chippewas, 40-11, and held a 20-7 advantage in draw controls.

"The girls really stayed focused the entire game," said Holt. "I think our draw controls were much better today than they were on Friday, so that was very promising to see them make that change after practicing a little bit. Again, we had some really nice controlled offensive plays and some really nice shots today."

Individually, aside from Standing's five goals and McCaleb's first-half trifecta, Topper scored two goals and added two assists and Carson contributed a goal, an assist and six draw controls.

Defensively, Morgan Gallagher caused three turnovers and scooped up six ground balls, while Imani Black and Cydney Tutchton each recorded two caused turnovers.

Maggi Buckley and Lauren Ey each played a half in net to combine for the victory.
