DELAND, Fla. -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to five and improved to 2-0 in Atlantic Sun play with a 13-9 road victory over Stetson on Friday evening at the Stetson Athletic Training Center.

"We had a few beautiful goals and some great defensive stops in man-up and man-down situations," said head coach Heather Holt. "The game was full of many different situations today. Everyone got some playing time which is nice too, but to get another conference win is just wonderful."

On a beautiful 70-degree evening in central Florida, Old Dominion (9-2, 2-0 A-Sun) was led by Ashmore Standing's four goals, giving the senior her seventh hat trick of the season. Mary Margaret McCaleb and Morgan Marrale also added three goals apiece.

The Lady Monarchs surged out to an early 2-0 lead off of goals from Connor Carson and Marrale. Stetson (4-8, 0-3 A-Sun) cut the lead in half with a goal at the 22:55 mark of the first half, but McCaleb extended the ODU lead back to two, converting a fast break off of an assist from Standing.

The Lady Monarchs pushed the lead to 5-1 at the midway point of the first half, as Marrale and McCaleb eached netted their second goals of the game. However, the Hatters responded with a three-goal spurt to pull within one at 5-4.

Standing then tallied a pair of goals in the final four minutes to round out the scoring for ODU in the opening half, giving the Lady Monarchs a 7-5 lead heading into halftime. At the half, ODU held a 15-13 advantage in shots and an 8-5 edge in draw controls.

Megan Cameron opened the second half with a goal in the first minute to put the Lady Monarchs ahead 8-5. After a Stetson score, Standing recorded back-to-back goals to move the score to 10-6. The teams would then trade goals, before the Hatters made a small run to close the gap to 11-9.

McCaleb and Marrale each tallied their third goals of the game in the waning minutes to give the Lady Monarchs the 13-9 victory. Megan Topper, Colby Muller and Katie Miller each added an assist for ODU, while Missy Koscinski led the defense with three ground balls and a caused turnover.

Overall, the Lady Monarchs outshot Stetson, 30-24, and held a 15-11 advantage in ground balls. Maggi Buckley earned the victory in goal for ODU, playing the full 60 minutes and tallying eight saves.

"We have a big game coming up on Sunday," said Holt. "So, we have to enjoy this for the night and then look forward to Jacksonville on Sunday."
