Lacrosse Set to Travel to Stetson, Jacksonville

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team travels to Florida for a pair of road conference games this weekend. The Lady Monarchs take on Stetson on Friday at 7 p.m., before heading north to Jacksonville to battle the Dolphins on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Old Dominion (8-2, 1-0 A-Sun) is riding a four-game win streak and is off to its best 10-game start to a season in program history after opening Atlantic Sun play last weekend with a 9-6 victory over Furman in Norfolk. 

Ashmore Standing leads the Lady Monarchs in scoring this season with 40 points on 34 goals and six assists. The senior attacker's point and goal totals also lead in the A-Sun and her 34 goals rank 14th in the NCAA.

Morgan Marrale ranks second in scoring with 25 points (13g/12a), while Connor Carson and Mary Margaret McCaleb each have double-digit goal totals with 15 and 11, respectively. Defensively, ODU is led by seniors Morgan Gallagher and Missy Koscinski, who have combined for 30 caused turnovers and 37 ground balls. As a team, the Lady Monarchs lead the A-Sun and rank sixth in the NCAA with 12.20 caused turnovers per game.

Maggi Buckley has played all but 10 minutes in goal for ODU this season, posting a .456 save percentage and an 8.86 goals against average.

Stetson (4-7, 0-2 A-Sun) lost a pair of one-goal matches to Mercer and Kennesaw State to open A-Sun play last weekend. The Hatters have just one win, an 18-11 victory over UMass Lowell, their last six games after opening the season 3-2.

Jacksonville (7-4, 2-0 A-Sun), the returning conference champions, are once again off to a dominant start to conference play, defeating Kennesaw State and Mercer last week by a combined score of 42-6. Three of JU's four losses have come to teams ranked in the IWLCA Coaches' Top 20. The Dolphins host Howard on Friday, before taking on ODU.

GAME NOTES

SERIES HISTORY
This will be the third all-time meeting between ODU and Stetson. The Monarchs lead the all-time series, 2-0, earning victories in each of the last two seasons. 

RECORD START
The Lady Monarchs are now 8-2 for the first time in program history, marking the best 10-game start to a season in program history. The best previous start was a 7-2 beginning to the 1980 season. 

MIDMAJOR LAX POLL
Old Dominion is ranked 21st in the latest MidMajor Lax Top 25. The Lady Monarchs moved down one spot from last week's poll, despite riding a four-game win streak. Jacksonville is No. 14 in this week's poll, while Stetson is unranked. The poll ranks the top 25 midmajor teams in the country.

'STANDING' OUT
Senior Ashmore Standing ranks fourth all-time in ODU history in career goals (141) and fifth in points (175). 2015 ODU Sports Hall of Fame inductee and three-time All-American Suzanne Wosczyna holds the school record in both categories (206 goals, 325 points). Standing also leads the A-Sun in goals this season with 34.

WEEKLY HONORS
Three different Lady Monarchs have been garnered Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors this season. Connor Carson became only the third player in A-Sun history to win both Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week honors in the same season. Additionally, Ashmore Standing and Maggi Buckley have each received a weekly award.

PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE
A total of four Lady Monarchs were named to the preaseason All-Atlantic Sun team, voted on by the coaches. Goalkeeper Maggi Buckley, defender Morgan Gallagher, midfielder Connor Carson and attacker Ashmore Standing all earned the honor. Defender Missy Koscinski and attacker Morgan Marrale were both named to the preseason watch list. As a team, ODU was selected to finish second behind reigning champ Jacksonville.
