FAIRFAX STATION, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's rowing team completed racing at both the San Diego Crew Classic and the Occoquan Sprints on Sunday.
The ODU's top Varsity Eight boat made the trip to Mission Bay in San Diego, California, for the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday, the Lady Monarchs finished second in their preliminary heat (7:01.074), placing ahead of the top boats for Sacramento State, St. Joseph's, Humboldt State and Villanova. San Diego State won the heat (7:00.420).
In the final on Sunday, ODU placed fourth (7:23.306), finishing ahead of Kansas State and SDSU, who defeated the Lady Monarchs in the preliminary heat. Miami won the final (7:11.845).
ODU also sent a total of four boats to the Occoquan Sprints on Sunday in Fairfax Station, Virginia.
The top Varsity Four boat placed fourth overall (5:27.24) in the A final, while the second Varsity Four boat finished first (7:39.70) in the Petite Final. In their preliminary heats, the boats finished first (6:24.70) and third (5:52.16), respectively.
The Lady Monarchs also had a pair of Novice Eight boats competing in Fairfax, as the top Novice Eight placed third (5:29.97) in the A final and the second boat finished third (6:30.99) in the Petite Final. The two boats finished first (5:24.40) and fifth (7:39.79), respectively, in their preliminary heats.
