DETROIT -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team earned a 17-12 victory at Detroit on Friday afternoon, clinching the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in next weekend's Atlantic Sun Championship.

Old Dominion (13-3, 6-1 A-Sun) never trailed in the game, recording the wire-to-wire win after surging out to a 6-0 lead in the first 17 minutes of play. Cydney Tutchton, Morgan Marrale and Ashmore Standing all netted hat tricks to pace the Lady Monarchs.

"We started off strongly in both halfs, which is nice," said head coach Heather Holt. "It was kind of a messy game for us. They have some really good athletes and some really fast kids in their midfield that I don't know if our girls weren't expecting or what, but they were really quick. With a team like that, you really have to respect that."

Following the six-goal run by ODU, Detroit (9-7, 4-3 A-Sun) answered with three consecutive goals to close the gap to three with 8:38 remaining in the first half. The Titans pulled to within one later in the half, but the Lady Monarchs added a pair of goals in the final three minutes to give ODU an 8-5 lead heading into halftime.

At the half, ODU held an 18-9 edge in shots and an 8-6 advantage in draw controls.

The Lady Monarchs opened the second half with another hot start, tallying a pair of goals in the first two minutes to extend the lead back to five at 10-5. Detroit pulled to within two at 13-11 late in the second half, but ODU answered with a 4-1 rally to close the game en route to the 17-12 victory.

Lauren Irvine, Megan Cameron and Natalie Ledwitz each netted a pair of goals for ODU, while Megan Topper contributed two assists. Connor Carson corralled a team-high seven draw controls, while Missy Koscinski led the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Maggi Buckley earned the win in goal, playing the full 60 minutes and recording four saves.

The 13th victory ties the ODU single-season record for wins, tying the 2015 and 2002 squads.
