The Monarchs are coming off a 1-2 weekend against the LA Tech Bulldogs and hold and overall record of 25-15. Earlier this season in Charlottesville, the Monarchs defeated the Cavaliers for the fourth consecutive time by posting a 5-4 comeback win against the then No. 20 team in the nation. Grayson Bailey earned the win for the Monarchs and moved to 2-0 on the season, while Brett Smith picked up his first save of the year. Kurt Sinnen finished the game 2-for-4, while Connor Myers went 2-for-5 with one RBI and one run. Nick Lustrino also went 1-for-3 and posted two runs.
Matt Thaiss hit a two-out, two-run single in the seventh inning to break a 3-3 deadlock and lift the Virginia baseball team to a 7-3 win over No. 1-ranked Miami Sunday afternoon at Alex Rodriguez Park in Coral Gables, Fla. Virginia (26-17, 11-10 ACC) won the series, two games to one, and earned its seventh straight series win against the Hurricanes (30-8, 14-5).
Daniel Pinero went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, while Charlie Cody added a pair of hits for UVA, which finished with 11 hits. Virginia starter Alec Bettinger matched a career high by working six innings, allowing three earned runs, four hits and four walks while striking out a pair. He earned the win to improve to 1-4. UVA's starting rotation of Connor Jones, Adam Haseley and Bettinger combined to allow five earned runs over 20 innings this weekend. Tommy Doyle struck out three of the four batters he faced over 1 1/3 innings to earn his second save in the series.
