NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team notched a convincing 20-4 victory over Howard on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

"We really played well, overall," said head coach Heather Holt. "It's really tough when you have lightning delays and things like that. Howard has very athletic kids and they are a very physical team. They played a tough game, but we had some great plays on attack that led to some beautiful goals."

Following a pregame ceremony that honored the seven seniors, Old Dominion (12-3, 5-1 A-Sun) earned its third consecutive double-digit victory and have now outscored its opponents 54-15 in the last three games.

Howard (0-12, 0-6 A-Sun) scored the game's first goal, as Victoria Lockhart found the back of the net just 17 seconds into the game. However, the Lady Monarchs responded with an 11-goal run to take a double-figure lead less than midway through the opening half.

A 40-minute lightning delay then stopped play at the 9:46 mark of the first half, but ODU continued its momentum after the break to take a 14-2 lead into halftime. ODU outshot Howard, 26-7, and held a 10-7 advantage in draw controls in the first half.

In the second half, ODU outscored the Bison, 6-2, to cruise to the 20-4 victory. Overall, the Lady Monarchs held a 37-15 edge in shots, a 15-11 advantage in draw controls and a 24-16 lead in ground balls.

Individually, Megan Topper led the Lady Monarchs with three goals and five assists, which was the highest single-game asisst total for any ODU player this season. Morgan Marrale added three goals and three assists, while Ashmore Standing tallied three goals and two assists. Freshman Katie Miller also netted a hat trick.

Standing is now just 16 goals away from tying the ODU single-season record for goals of 67, set by Cathy Large in 1987.

Connor Carson and freshman Lauren Irvine, who scored her first career ODU goal, each finished with two goals, while Megan Cameron and Cydney Tutchton rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.

Defensively, Imani Black caused a game-high three turnovers and Kerri Caruso forced a pair of turnovers and scooped up two ground balls. Maggi Buckley and Lauren Ey split time in goal, combing for five saves.

The annual ODU Spring Clinic is scheduled for tomorrow Sunday, April 24. The clinic, open to any and all 7th through 12th graders, will focus on stick work, elite offensive and defensive concepts and game situations. Click here for more information.
