MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The No. 75 nationally ranked and No. 4 seeded Old Dominion women’s tennis team (14-7) dominated No. 5 seeded Marshall (11-11) by a 4-0 score in the Quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament on Friday at the Adams Tennis Complex.
The Lady Tennis Monarchs will be right back in action tomorrow in the Semifinals against No. 1 seeded and No. 45 nationally ranked FIU at 1:00 p.m. EST.
Old Dominion has now won 10 of its last 13 matches.
Just last weekend, ODU traveled to Huntington and lost to Marshall by a 5-2 score in the regular season finale, not even 10 days later, Old Dominion avenged that loss and ended the Thundering Herd’s season.
The Lady Tennis Monarchs won the doubles point as their No. 1 and No. 3 tandems handled business.
Freshman Natalya Malenko gave ODU a 2-0 lead when she got the better of Anne Gulsrud (6-1, 6-4) on Court No. 6.
Fellow freshman Nataliya Vlasova made it 3-0 in favor of Old Dominion, when she defeated Maddie Silver (6-3, 6-4) in No. 3 singles.
It was Ingrid Vojcinakova who punched ODU’s ticket to the semifinals with a straight set victory over Marija Bogicevic (6-3, 6-3) in No. 5 singles, securing a 4-0 win over Marshall in the Quarterfinals on Friday.
The winner of the C-USA Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
