NORFOLK, Va. -- Ashmore Standing scored a game-high six goals, including the 150th goal of her career, to lead the Old Dominion women's lacrosse team over Kennesaw State, 18-7, on Sunday afternoon at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
"I thought our team played the full 60 minutes today," said head coach Heather Holt. "Overall, I'm happy that the girls went after it for the whole game and never let up. I'm really excited for Ashmore and I'm excited to talk to the team about it because that is a really big stat for her."
Standing becomes just the fourth player in ODU lacrosse history to achieve the milestone. Standing joins Suzanne Wosczyna, Anne Windover and Cathy Large in the 150-goal club.
Old Dominion (11-3, 4-1 A-Sun) jumped out to a two-goal lead less than three minutes into the game as Standing and Megan Cameron netted early goals. Kennesaw State (4-9, 2-3 A-Sun) responded, scoring all three of its first-half goals in a four-minute span, but the Lady Monarchs went on an eight-goal run to close the half and head to halftime with a 12-3 lead.
At the half, ODU held a commaning 32-8 advantage in shots and a 12-4 edge in draw controls.
The Lady Monarchs continued their momentum into the second half, outscoring the Owls, 6-4. Alex Danks paced Old Dominion in the second half, tallying all three of her goals in the second half.
Overall, ODU outshot KSU, 47-18, and held a 18-8 advantage in ground balls. The ODU defense, which was led by Missy Koscinski's three caused turnovers, forced Kennesaw State into 21 turnovers, while the Lady Monarchs committed just 12.
On the offensive end, Connor Carson and Katie Miller also scored multiple goals with two apiece, while Morgan Marrale added a goal and a team-high three assists.
Maggi Buckley earned the victory in net, playing 42 minutes and making five saves. Lauren Ey played 18 minutes in relieft, recording two saves.
"There were a few things we have been working on in practice and trying to tweak in our game and now we're really starting to see them in full effect, which is nice to see," said Holt.
Sunday's game served as the Team Impact game to help raise awareness for Cystic Fibrosis, while also honoring Hannah Goetz, a 13-year-old with CF who was adopted as a member of the ODU lacrosse team in 2013 through Team Impact.
A free youth postgame clinic was also held following the game with over 100 kids in attendance.
