NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team opens Atlantic Sun play on Sunday, April 3, with a 12 p.m. match against Furman at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

Old Dominion (7-2, 0-0 A-Sun) enters conference play with the best overall record in the A-Sun, after a dominant 19-2 victory over VCU last weekend. A total of eight different Lady Monarchs scored goals in the win, including seven who netted two or more goals. 

The 7-2 start also matches the best nine-game start to a season in program history. The last and only other time ODU was 7-2 was in 1980.

Overall, Ashmore Standing leads the Lady Monarchs in scoring this season with 36 points on 30 goals and six assists. Standing's 30-goal total is also tops in the A-Sun and ranks 13th nationally. Morgan Marrale ranks second on the team with 23 points (12g/11a), while Connor Carson is third with 18 (15g/3a).

Defensively, the senior duo of Morgan Gallagher and Missy Koscinski have combined for 28 caused turnovers and 34 ground balls. As a team, ODU leads the A-Sun and ranks sixth in the NCAA with a 12.44 caused turnovers per game average. 

Maggi Buckley has played all but 10 minutes in goal for the Lady Monarchs this season, posting a 9.18 goals against average and .456 save percentage.

Furman (6-4, 1-0 A-Sun) opened A-Sun play on Friday with a 20-5 win at Howard. The Paladins have now won six of their last eight, with the only losses coming at Fresno State and at No. 19 Johns Hopkins.

ODU and Furman share one common opponent so far this season, as each team defeated Campbell by a one-goal margin.

The Paladins have a total of five players with double-digit points on the season, led by Devon Horine (19g/2a) and Paige Gamble (14g/7a) who each have 21. Courtney Baker and Maggie Friel have split time in goal, with Baker posting a 4-2 record and a 12.20 goals against average and Frield recording a 1-2 record with a 10.39 goals against average.

GAME NOTES

SERIES HISTORY
This will be the second all-time meeting between ODU and Furman. The teams met last year in A-Sun play with the Lady Monarchs taking a 17-5 victory in Greenville, South Carolina.

RECORD START
The Lady Monarchs are now 7-2 for the first time since 1980, matching the best nine-game start to a season in program history.

MIDMAJOR LAX POLL
Old Dominion is ranked 20th in the latest MidMajor Lax Top 25. The Lady Monarchs moved up two spots after being ranked 22nd in last week's poll. The poll ranks the top 25 midmajor teams in the country.

'STANDING' OUT
Senior Ashmore Standing ranks fourth all-time in ODU history in career goals (137) and fifth in points (171). 2015 ODU Sports Hall of Fame inductee and three-time All-American Suzanne Wosczyna holds the school record in both categories (206 goals, 325 points).

WEEKLY HONORS
Three different Lady Monarchs have been garnered Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors this season. Connor Carson became only the third player in A-Sun history to win both Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week honors in the same season. Additionally, Ashmore Standing and Maggi Buckley have each received a weekly award.

PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE
A total of four Lady Monarchs were named to the preaseason All-Atlantic Sun team, voted on by the coaches. Goalkeeper Maggi Buckley, defender Morgan Gallagher, midfielder Connor Carson and attacker Ashmore Standing all earned the honor. Defender Missy Koscinski and attacker Morgan Marrale were both named to the preseason watch list. As a team, ODU was selected to finish second behind reigning champ Jacksonville.
