Lacrosse Continues Home Stretch vs. Liberty

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team hosts Liberty on Saturday, March 5, at 1 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

Old Dominion (3-1) is looking to rebound after suffering its first loss of the season to Richmond, 13-7, on Wednesday night at the L.R. Hill. Ashmore Standing, who recently moved into eighth all-time in program history in career goals, leads the Lady Monarchs in scoring this season with 13 points, including a team-high 11 goals. Connor Carson and Morgan Marrale, who has a team-high five assists, are tied for second with eight points. Carson also leads ODU with 10 draw controls.

Defensively, Maggi Buckley has played all but one minute in net for ODU this season, recording 43 saves on 118 shot attempts. Buckley's 10.75 save per game average also ranks ninth in the NCAA. Morgan Gallagher leads the team in caused turnovers with six. 

Liberty (1-3) is coming off of a 21-7 loss to Navy last weekend. The Lady Flames' only win this season is a 19-9 victory over first-year program VCU. Kayla Foster leads Liberty with 12 points on seven goals and five assists, while Callie Francis is second with 10 points. In goal, Katherine Widrick and Aubrie Tarris have split time.

ODU and Liberty share two common opponents so far this season in Richmond and Virginia Tech. Liberty lost to both Richmond, 16-11, and Virginia Tech, 7-4, while the Lady Monarchs defeated Tech ,10-7, but lost to Richmond, 13-7. 

SERIES HISTORY
This will be just the second all-time meeting between Old Dominion and Liberty, who started its women's lacrosse program in 2010. The only previous meeting occured in 2014, when the Lady Monarchs earned an 11-9 victory in Lynchburg. 

WEEKLY TEAM CAPTAINS
Morgan Gallagher and Connor Carson have been named team captains for this week. ODU will have weekly team captains for the 2016 season.  Captains are named on each Monday and the honor is given to those who have been leaders for the program both on and off the field.

'STANDING' OUT
Senior Ashmore Standing is currently 8th all-time in ODU history in career goals (118) and and ninth in points (149). 2015 ODU Sports Hall of Fame inductee and three-time All-American Suzanne Wosczyna holds the school record in both categories (206 goals, 325 points).

BUCKLEY 9th IN NCAA IN SAVES PER GAME
Junior goalkeeper Maggi Buckley currently ranks ninth in the NCAA in saves per game with a 10.75 average. Buckley has recorded three games of 10+ saves this season, including a season-high 14 in the win over Campbell. Haleigh Wurzel of Mercer leads the NCAA with 16.00 saves per game.

MIDMAJOR LAX POLL
Old Dominion is receiving votes in the latest MidMajor Lax poll, released on Feb. 26. The poll ranks the top 25 midmajor teams in the country.

PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE
A total of four Lady Monarchs were named to the preaseason All-Atlantic Sun team, voted on by the coaches. Goalkeeper Maggi Buckley, defender Morgan Gallagher, midfielder Connor Carson and attacker Ashmore Standingall earned the honor. Defender Missy Koscinski and attacker Morgan Marrale were both named to the preseason watch list. As a team, ODU was selected to finish second behind reigning champ Jacksonville.
